He was the permanently-exasperated owner of the fictitious café that made up the centre of the popular Eighties sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo. Kaye, who starred as Rene Artois from 1982 to 1992. Kaye played café owner Rene Artois in the classic sitcom, focusing on resistance fighters in France during World War II. having taken on the role in 1982 and also in 1,200 performances of the stage show.
